July 1, 2011
Open Call 3 has just been released, and contains a pack of new client maps for Tribes 1, with new terrains textures and shapes. You will need to download these to play.

What does open call mean, originally? What is special about it? It seems like a usual CTF play type.
Do you really need all these new textures plas? Or just the .ted, like for any other custom terrain and .vols for new interiorshapes?

Good question... Balanced maps were all maps that had identical bases on either side, and mirrored terrain on either side too... The actual objectives were ambiguous, and often contained elements of 2 or 3 other mission types, such as Capture the Flag and Capture and Hold... I theorize that Open Call implies the same objective ambiguity, but without the mirrored aspect of the teams in Balanced maps.

"Open call" was used in the past by Sierra to ask for submissions, then decide which maps to release. As in a casting call. Open call and open call 2 were done this way.
open call

–noun
an audition, especially for actors or dancers, open to anyone wishing to try out.


In this case, a group of mappers got together and put together a map pack. Nothing wrong with it, it's just not an official map pack as the others were.

I was wondering why console.cs was included... It makes no mention of the LT missions... I figured it was a bug fix or something, but didn't have time to compare it with the old one.
