Torque, IA and GG shutdown.

Post by Plasmatic » Sat Nov 13, 2010 12:03 pm

Today, InstantAction informed employees that it will be winding down operations. While we are shutting down the InstantAction.com website and Instant Jam game, Torquepowered.com will continue to operate while InstantAction explores opportunities with potential buyers for Torque. We thank all of our past and current customers for their support. - Torque Management

What Lou Castle plans for what's left of the company has yet to be seen.

Right. So, they manage their company badly, fail to sell anything, act like they have more money than they do, and now they're surprised that they're having to lose everything?

Lou Castle needs to stop acting like a manager and get back in his basement playing video games.

I doubt they were completely shocked this would happen. Some had been looking for jobs over the past year, while others simply left a few months ago. And I don't think all the blame should be placed on Castle. As one of the Torque employees put it, he was dealt a losing hand.

Yeah, but he should have folded sooner.

He has a terrible poker face. He went into the job, announced that he's never played before, and everyone at the table exchanged winks.

Imagine what we'd be playing had Dynamix never folded. Just take a second, and think about that.

We'd all be playing Starsiege 5 by now. DirectX10, destructible buildings and terrain, foot soldiers, flying vehicles... HERCS!

You think they would have produced nearly 2 versions per year? I don't think I would enjoy trying to keep up with that.

Starsiege = 1999
Nearly 2 years per version, you mean? :P

Alternately, Tribes: Vengeance wouldn't have sucked.

It's all about the people who were making the game.
The more Dynamix key people you put in a group, the better their games will be.

But if you think of it, why would Sierra shut down the master servers and stop supporting Tribes so quickly if its such an awesome game?

I asked him about PlayTribes:

lulz.

Wow, I started off reading every thread in there... Then got sick of reading question after question after question that asked 1 of 2 things. #1: How do I get a job in the gaming industry. #2: I love C&C, blah blah blah.

I started skipping any questions that sounded like those 2 and scanned the page for the word Tribes.

There is no mention of the Hi-Rez purchase, and every response from Lou on the subject of Tribes is denying the fact that they aren't working on it at all while instructing us to wait.

Absolutely no new information at all was discussed there. LAME.

Erm, it's from 7 months ago as it says at the top. Long before things happened, including Hi-Rez acquiring Tribes.

I'm aware of that... What I meant was that I learned nothing new from reading that, despite the fact that I hadn't read it 7 months ago.
